Mosquito Creek

The aptly named Mosquito Creek is a small offshoot of the Muskegon River just east of the North/South branch. Besides the eponymous bugs, there are loads of others as well as gorgeous flowers.
Dock Before Dawn

From a first try at long exposures, the Kirksey Dock on Muskegon Lake way before sunrise yesterday morning.
Tournament Time

Muskegon Lake was crazy busy this morning.
Two separate bass tournaments caused a pre-dawn traffic jam at Fisherman’s Landing as an amazing number of boats were launched. The first starting gun was at 6:00 AM and the second a half an hour later. If they had been any closer together, there probably would have been pile ups on the lake itself.
The extra boats didn’t diminish the beauty of the morning. These photos are of the Milwaukee Clipper pilings and the shore just east of Ruddiman Creek.

River Morning

The Muskegon River on the morning of July 28, 2014.

Good Plan. Crappy Execution.

The plan for the morning paddle was to cross the Muskegon River delta on one of the small connectors from the South Branch to the North – and then head up to the major branch of the two. What could be easier?
The first half came off without a hitch. Then, a wrong turn led to a bewildering trudge upriver. Heading up the North branch would have been a fairly easy paddle, but the greatly reduced width of the new route greatly increased the force of the current. Finally the small connector – right back through the delta – emerged only slightly above where the whole trip started.

From a walk along Muskegon Lake this morning before the first ever Muskegon Heritage Village Garden and Car Show.
The photo below is very odd. It almost looks as if the dock is pasted over a lake background. It isn’t.

Wall Flowers

Flowers along the top of the retaining wall between Muskegon’s Shoreline Drive.

It was a long trip to the Muskegon Farmers Market last Saturday. Not measured in distance, but rather in time. The flowers along the Lakeshore Bike Trail were so beautiful that as soon as you had a photo of one, the next would seem even prettier.
Here are just a few of the reasons that breakfast was finally consumed at lunchtime.

Spring Creek, July 4, 2014

About four miles up from the boat launch at the end of Sheridan Road (Sheridan Landing? Anyone know?), there is a small offshoot of the river called Spring Creek. Wow. Is it ever beautiful. So much so, that a paddle with an earlier departure is in the works to shoot some sunrise pictures there.

Snowy Sunrise

A very cold Friday morning at Muskegon’s Ruddiman Creek.
It was one of those mornings when you hesitate to shoot a photo because the camera won’t work if you leave your mittens on – and you really don’t want to take them off.
