Muskegon was jumping this morning.
A highly inefficient route to a packed Farmer’s Market was shared with a cross country tournament, a charity run, and a bike race. Best of all was a gorgeous hawk in the trees between Ruddiman Lagoon and Addison Street.
It was very satisfying to find Bike Trail Jim, who made last year’s initial siting of the bear swimming from North Muskegon. I assumed my hawk encounter would at least slightly rebalance the wildlife spotting score.
Bad assumption.
“You only saw one?” It seems that four of these beauties have taken up long term residence around our lagoon!
Snowy Sunrise
A very cold Friday morning at Muskegon’s Ruddiman Creek.

…a nice day for a wet webbing…
It was a much colder morning in Muskegon, which made for a really fun walk.
After the bald eagle lording over all of the smaller birds at Ruddiman Lagoon, the next most entertaining site was a gaggle that couldn’t collectively comprehend the sudden reappearance of ice – so they stood on the bank of the pond yelling at it…no, not the eagle, the ice.
These are from a walk along Muskegon’s Ruddiman Creek on Friday morning. The macros are all well and good, but check out that beaver stump!
Ruddiman Pond
Here is the sun coming up over the Ruddiman Creek valley just down the hill from Muskegon’s McGraft Park.
With the creek finally starting to thaw a bit, it’s really fun to watch all of the animals reappearing. Besides all of the resident ducks, there are usually a few large mammals navigating the water. These guys (beavers?) aren’t obvious as yet, but I’m sure that we’ll be seeing them any day now.
